Rare Coins & Light Sabres - Collectable Now

Thursday 27 December 2007 @ 1:28 pm

People have been collecting things for ever. Rare collectable coins to popular culture. The basis of whether something is potential for becoming a collectable item in the future is a mix of supply & demand, inherent value and sometimes just luck. If you want to find collectables for sale then Collectables-now.com is a place to start. You can find all the usual collectables like cars and coins as well as Star wars and ….my preferred sc-fi…star trek collectables,(Its an age thing).

Whatever your preference collecting comes from an interest in a subject or maybe some ancient pyschological hoarding instinct! I am not sure…

Collecting for investment purposes has its own risks as with any type of investment. I find it best to stick to what you like over what you think others may want in the future. That way, at least you get to appreciate your own collection whilst you have it.

Collecting - From Coins to Star Wars, May the Force Be Limited Edition!

Thursday 27 December 2007 @ 12:56 pm

What makes something collectable? There are various economic considerations when deciding if something is collectable. Thre is inherent value. This is the raw value of something that can be measured by its ’store of value’ The most common staore of value is money and whilst most of us spend our lives trying to collect as much of it as possible due to its supply its not commonly referred to as a collectable. Collectable coins are though and combine sored value with scarcity value to provide an additional value. The older and rarer a coin may be the more collectable and therefore the higher the value.

Scarcity combines with supply and demand in more popular culture collectables. Take for example, Star Wars collectables. The popularity of the long running franchise has meant that demand for all things Star Wars related has been high for years. The franchise owners with clever marketing and an eye on the supply side equation have created their own scarcity market for the goods which has helped to keep the demand high for whatever they produce. A difficult balancing act to achieve.

Most collectors however collect because of aesthetic value. Buy a painting because you like it and want to hang and appreciate its inherent value to your eye….One day, if others agree with your taste…it may turn out to be collectable.
