William Mark served with Nelson at the Battle of Trafalgar and afterwards he settled in Malaga and became the British Consul to the Kingdom of Granada . He was able to persuade the Governor to donate a piece of land which became the English Cemetery in 1829.
A sixth generation decendent of William Mark recently visited the cemetery from his home in New Zealand .
The memory of their ancestor and what he achieved is still very much alive in his decendents who now live in South Africa , New Zealand and the Uk .
One of their proud possessions is a journal that he kept when he was in the Royal Navy with Horatio Nelson .
Spanish News - The Costa Blanca, Alicante Province
The results are better than everyone expected and tourism on the Costa Blanca has not fallen , although it is not as good as in 2007.
There seems to be some confusion in Benidorm when the mayor says that tourism has gone down by 5% and the regional tourism chief says that it has gone up by 4%.
The British are still the most prolific visitors with a 12 % rise in numbers . Alicante airport has seen a 7% increase over the same period last year .
Recently the Benidorm tourist board have done some promotional work in Holland and Belgium and this has also paid off with an increased number of visitors from these countries .
Spanish News - Teulada-Moraira, Costa Blanca Spain
Gata de Gorgos , El Verger and Moraira will have bus services which have been partially funded by the regional government .
There will be two systems in Moraira and Teulada . In winter a bus will leave the station in Teulada and travel to Moraira, on to El Portet and then out along the Moraira / Calpe road .
Another will connect a variety of urbanisations to both town centres . In the summer the services will happen every 30 minutes .
Other towns will benefit if this scheme works well .The 300,000 euros from the Valencian government will buy the buses , build two terminals and also a number of bus stops .
Hopefully it will stop the use of cars and be a more convenient method of travel for everyone .
If you are a Benidorm resident or a hotel that is closing down its swimming pool for the winter then telephone the town hall and let them know .
The council will use the donated water for other purposes in the town . They will use it for watering public gardens , washing streets etc
The pool will be emptied free of charge and kept in one of the two deposits owned by the cleaning company .
This will be the third year that the council in Benidorm has run this scheme .
